Cultivating a thriving network of members from the ground up

At any given point in time, what is the greatest number of people you’ve ever been able to maintain a genuine friendship with? Can you confidently list all of them off by name? For Khay-Gie Aniciete— Yas Links’ very own membership coordinator—that number is over 300!

When Yas Links Abu Dhabi, the first true Links golf course in the Middle East, revealed its magnificent eighteen-hole course to the public in 2010, golf lovers throughout the country rejoiced. Representing the first opportunity to experience the unique traditions of the game, Yas Links also boasts a fully floodlit nine hole academy course and practice tee, set against dramatic views of the Arabian Gulf – culminating in unparalleled visual glory with the thrill of golf’s ultimate test.

To Yas Links’ Membership Coordinator dedicated to growing the club’s loyal membership base year on year, the passion doesn’t stop at golf. Cultivating a thriving network of members and enriching their experience with a warm and authentic clubhouse feel has been Khay-Gie’s greatest joy since 2010. Sitting down for a cosy tête-à-tête with Ms. Aniciete, we asked her to tell us more about her responsibilities, how she keeps up a friendly relationship with every member of the club, and whether she was willing to reveal any tricks of the trade.

“My primary responsibilities are centered around membership acquisition, membership engagement and membership retention. This comes with admin tasks such as managing the registration, updating the newsletter and assisting in organizing events,” she explained. “Regularly seeing our members’ faces and meeting new ones is the most rewarding aspect of my job,” Khay-Gie shared. “I love my job and that is the greatest trick I think, because when you love what you do, you are able to spread positivity and passion. You can create a great atmosphere and form real friendships with the members. When it is genuine, they feel it,” she expounded.

As one of Yas Links’ longest serving employees, Khay-Gie has seen the club transform over the years, as it not only continues to acquire new members from across the UAE, but new facilities to boot. Last year, the club built its own state-of-the-art gym and refurbished its beloved sports bar, Hickory’s. Since its establishment, Yas Links has also received awards and recognitions from prestigious golf awarding international bodies. In 2016, it was ranked 46th on Golf Digest USA’s list of ‘The World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses’.

To conclude, Khay-Gie revealed that she spends her own leisure time at Yas Island. When she’s not working on enhancing her own golf skills, look for Khay-Gie shopping at Yas Mall or sunbathing on Yas beach.
